Ever since I learned to play the guitar (at age 15) I've always wanted to write a song to play for my wife at our wedding. When I eventually met Ans-Mari (at the tender age of 34 :-), I quickly started to work on THE SONG.
The only problem was that THE SONG never came. I eventually managed to get some sort of a tune together, but as the big day was approaching, no lyrics were forthcoming. Finally it was the day before the wedding and still nothing :-( I went to bed that evening with mixed feelings. On the one hand I was excited and looking forward to my wedding but on the other hand I was having to face the reality that I might not have a song to sing for my wife. I gave it over to God and went to sleep.
I woke up fairly early the next morning. I immediately picked up my guitar suddenly there were the words. I scribbled everything down on a piece of paper and spend the next half hour quietly practicing the song.
The wedding was a blur, but luckily I managed to sneak away for a couple of practice sessions. Finally I had a chance to play the song with my best man Herman holding the pieces of paper in front of me with the scribbled lyrics and my beautiful bride watching. Was pretty crazy but I wouldn't have traded it for he world :-)
Here is a more polished version of the song. (Thanks to Katalyst Music Productions and Gideon Murray for the arrangement and recording!). Our "Trou liedjie" dedicated to my beautiful, stunning wife, Ans-Mari :-)
