Cha Chai Home (Thailand)
On the first day of our stay in Koh Payam we jogged past a small restaurant called Cha Chai Home. After browsing through the menu for about 30 seconds, my wife and I realised that we were probably going to spend a considerable amount of time (and Thai Baht) at this cute little place. In fact my wife soon became a bit of a groupie ;-) Well me too, I suppose. We are both pretty serious about healthy food, especially if it tastes real good!
Cha Chai home is owned by husband and wife pair, Chai and Charmaine. Charmaine is the creative genius behind the restaurant. Her passion for healthy food shines through the large selection on offer on the menu. There are separate drink and food menus and it is quite a process navigating your way through them. Luckily the favourite items are marked with a heart. I tried most of them and was rarely disappointed!
We visited in October which is the shoulder season (the changeover between the rainy and dry seasons) in Koh Payam (luckily just in time for Cha Chai Home, the restaurant is closed during the rainy season and only opens mid October). The island was fairly quiet, which in this case was a mixed blessing. The advantage was that it was easy finding place at the restaurant (apparently you have to get there early in high season as the place fills up quickly), but the disadvantage was that we missed out on the muffins and the cheesecake, which are only on offer during high season.
We eventually ate there every day of our 8 day stay on Koh Payam and every meal was a highlight! Thanks Chai, Charmaine and the rest of the team, we will definitely miss you guys!
