Hi.

Welcome to AnaVahi. This is where I share my photos, stories and music. Hope you like it!

Edunova Charity Run

Edunova Charity Run

It all started at the Berg and Beach trail run in Hermanus. At the top of the mountains I met a charming "couple" and managed to convince them to pose for a picture.

It turns out that they are not a couple at all (both are happily married, just not to each other:-) ). They were taking part in the Berg & Beach to raise awareness for Edunova, a non-profit organization that aims to facilitate positive educational change in schools throughout South Africa. My wife and I both have a passion for education and Edunova's ideals instantly struck a chord with us. When we discovered that they have organized a charity race at Bontevlei, we knew that we had to be involved. Ans-Mari contacted Claire Hodge and she was delighted to have us onboard. We had a great time at Bontevlei with the Edunova team. Big thanks to all the sponsers, especially Standard Bank, Bontevlei venue and Sportsman's Warehouse.

I hope that you enjoy the pics and some scribbled annotations of another amazing day on the trails :-)

While the 3km athletes had to deal with these guys! All jokes aside... they were also really friendly :-)

We soon veered off unto single track. My beautiful wife struggled to contain her excitement :-)

The single track led us through the most beautiful flowers.

Of course, there is nothing like the first hill to break everyone's speed.

Luckily the first water table was waiting at the top of the hill. The route continued to the right, on a loop back to the water table. This gave me the opportunity to sneak to the left and grab some pics of the leaders.

I met up with a friend from the Funky Fynbos run in Stanford. This time he was helping out as a race marshal.

And then onto another jeeptrack running parallel to the Annandale road.

We soon turned back up to Bontevlei farm. When we reached the dam close to the finish line, it was the ideal place for a couple picture :-)

The last stretch of the race was around the dam with the finish line in the distance.

The price giving was a jovial affair with lots of lucky draw prizes.

This is arguably one of the best way to finish a race... to the sound of your number being drawn in the lucky draw!

Bontevlei did not charge Edunova for the use of the venue. I love it when local businesses partner with worthy causes. Big thanks to Wrensch Louw and his team!

The race winners, Chris Visser and Danette Smith. Chris kept his wife waiting at the airport for this pic. Thanks Chris, hope you didn't have to sleep on the couch that evening :-)
